Bowl-A-Thon

FCBR’s Annual Bowl-A-Thon Fundraising Event

The FCBR Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser is an event that seamlessly blends the joys of entertainment with the spirit of giving.  Held annually for more than thirty years, it has become a beloved association tradition that brings the members of FCBR together in the name of generosity and is a shining example of the power of community and the importance of coming together to support one another.

The fundraiser was initiated by REALTOR member, Lon Hughes, with the aim of creating an evening of fun and socializing with members while also raising funds for a noble cause. The first Bowl-A-Thon was held in 1991 to support a five-year-old boy who needed a life-saving liver transplant. Despite being Lon’s first attempt at organizing such an event, it was a resounding success, attracting over 70 attendees and raising more than $5,000, which went a long way to securing the transplant.  The event has grown every year since under Lon’s direction through 2012, when REALTOR member Ben Woodrum took over the reins and has carried on the legacy of the event’s success by building upon the solid foundation established by Lon.

2023 Bowl-A-Thon Recipient – Jeffrey Martin

Bowl-A-Thon recipient, Jeffrey Martin, presented with a check for $21,922.84!

This year the Bowl-A-Thon Committee selected Jeffrey Martin as the beneficiary of the proceeds generated by this event.  Jeffrey is highly respected throughout the association for being an outstanding mentor, teacher, community volunteer, and friend.  He is currently a broker associate with RE/MAX Alliance Crossroads, and a longtime member, and four-term Board President of FCBR.

He began his career in real estate in 2003 and has made significant contributions to the industry ever since. He has held several prestigious positions at CAR, including being the Vice President of Government Affairs and the Chair of the Legislative Policy Committee, as well as the recipient of REALTOR of the Year and the Distinguished Service Awards.

In 2014, Jeffrey received a life-altering diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, which has had a profound impact on his life. His condition has resulted in not only enduring its chronic and debilitating effects but also facing significant and ongoing financial hardships.  We hope that the funds raised will help cover some of the medical and financial challenges Jeffrey faces.

In these difficult times, it is heartening to see how our members have come together to support one of their own. We hope that this gesture of support provides Jeffrey with the strength and encouragement he needs to continue his fight against Parkinson’s.

2022 Bowl-A-Thon Recipient – Nathan Washam

Bowl-A-Thon recipient, Nathan Washam, presented with a check for $19,392.30!

This year the Bowl-A-Thon Committee selected Nathan Washam, broker/owner of Restate Real Estate and longtime member of FCBR, as the recipient of the proceeds generated by this event.

On January 24, 2021, Nathan, who had no underlying health problems, was hospitalized with COVID-19 and spent nearly 2 months in a coma and later diagnosed as paralyzed after contracting the virus. In addition, he had also developed a hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare life-threatening condition that impacts the immune system. His survival rate was 5% as COVID vaccines were unavailable at that time.

It has taken Nathan 11 months to relearn how to walk, talk and even drink. He is currently battling a second autoimmune disease which has him traveling to Denver multiple times a week for treatment.

He credits the medical staff at UCHealth for saving his life, as well as the love and support from his wife and two children. Click here for Nathan’s story.

Nathan’s battle with COVID has had a major financial impact on his family. Through the Bowl-A-Thon event, and with the help from our community, our goal is to raise $20,000+. All proceeds will go to help Nathan as he continues on his journey to full recovery from this debilitating disease.
