Linda Norton Good Neighbor Scholarship

The Linda Norton Good Neighbor Scholarship was created by the Fort Collins Board of Realtors in memory of Fort Collins Board of Realtors member Linda Norton, who made significant contributions to the community and the real estate industry. Linda worked as a realtor and created numerous innovative programs related to affordable housing. She is remembered for her advocacy and kindness.

This scholarship benefits outstanding students in Poudre School District that aim to pursue a degree in finance, economics, business, or real estate.

This scholarship is available only to students in PSD boundaries with a 3.5 GPA or better and planning to pursue a degree in business, finance, or economics at a school in Colorado. Financial need is also a factor and should be demonstrated via a narrative that describes their financial situation.

The scholarship cycle is open from mid-January through the end of February each year.

I am so appreciative of this wonderful gift, and I promise to study hard and be very engaged on the CSU campus. Going to college has been a life-long dream, and I am thrilled that this goal is so close to being a reality.

I’ve been accepted to the Honors Program at CSU, which means I will be taking smaller classes that require high engagement and encourage critical thinking. I am so excited to meet other highly motivated peers, and build relationships with the students and staff involved with the Honors Program. I am confident that this special experience, as well as all the opportunities offered by the large CSU campus, will prepare me so well to be a successful career woman and contributing member of society. Thank you so much again for your generosity.”

2020 Linda Norton Scholarship Recipient – Carter Edgerley

The Fort Collins Board of REALTORS® recently awarded the Linda Norton Good Neighbor Scholarship to Fort Collins native, Carter Edgerley.

Carter graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in May 2019, and will be attending Front Range Community College this fall with plans on pursuing a degree in business. At the start of his senior year, in addition to continuing to excel academically, Carter learned that he had made the varsity basketball team – a dream of his. His future was looking bright when just a few short months later he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. This news immediately threw him into the fight of his life.

His last semester was consumed with numerous rounds of chemotherapy and endless trips to the hospital. However, his determination to graduate did not wane and continued to be at the forefront of his mind. With the help and support of his family and school he was able to complete the classes needed in time to graduate.

“After I was diagnosed with cancer, I was terrified that I would never be able to afford college and instead spend all my time trying to pay off hospital bills,” Carter stated. “Thanks to the graciousness of scholarship donors and the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, I was lucky enough to win the Boland and Norton scholarships, and I am beyond grateful. This money will be my saving grace when registering for college courses in the fall. It will allow me to work during my schooling, and instead of taking all the money I earn from work and sending it away to pay fees, I will be able to save that money for the future. Just knowing that one of my college semesters is going to be paid for makes me smile, and the word thankful doesn’t even begin to describe my thoughts about winning these scholarships. If I could tell these gracious and helpful donors one thing, I would tell them that they have helped me more than they could ever know. Receiving this money helps lift a monumental weight off of my shoulders, and I know that I am beyond lucky and blessed to be the recipient of both of these amazing scholarships.”

Carter has demonstrated that not only does he meet the criteria required to receive the Linda Norton Good Neighbor scholarship, he excels in every aspect of his life and is an inspiration to us all.

The Fort Collins Board of REALTORS® congratulates Carter on receiving this award and wishes him all the best as he pursues his goals and dreams for the wonderful and amazing future that lies ahead of him!
