Fort Collins’ City Council on June 6th provided direction to City Staff to prepare a scope of study for the U+2 Ordinance.
This action came nearly a year after leaders from FCBR ask Council to conduct a ten year performance review of the Occupancy Ordinance with a focus on impacts to neighborhood quality of life and housing affordability.
Following a December 2016 work session on the matter where several council members expressed concerns about potential partners, including FCBR, influencing the study in an inappropriate way the matter was tabled until a new council was seated.
FCBR leaders asked City Council & Staff for an update on the progress of this item in the weeks leading up to the June 6th session. Mayor Pro-Tem Gerry Horak committed to moving FCBR’s request forward and did exactly that. See video below…
FCBR is hopeful that a performance review will provide much needed data to help move the conversation beyond the typical emotionally charged debates, and seek to focus on potential improvements that continue to promote high quality neighborhoods while seeking to better utilize the current footprint of housing available to us.
Stay tuned as FCBR will continue to be a leading voice in this effort to protect the future of rental housing affordability.
