What is Advocacy Anyway?

The Fort Collins Board of REALTORS® (FCBR) recently restructured the way we do business, allowing us to focus on delivering those services that most empower our members to be successful via three core service areas. Our Networking & Events along with our Education & Professionalism departments are self-evident in purpose and function. However, our third department, REALTOR® & Consumer Advocacy, may not be as well understood solely by name, but can be easily explained by 4 “I’s.”
Our REALTOR® & Consumer Advocacy Department ensures that the best interests of our members and homeowners current and future are protected. We do this via the 4 “I’s”- Involvement, Investment, Information & Influence.
In other words, FCBR’s Advocacy efforts are predicated on meaningful Community Involvement, substantial Investment in key organizations, trustworthy local real estate Information, and effective Influence on local public policy.
It is our strong belief that FCBR is the best, and in many cases the only organization, to effectively advocate for home ownership and property rights at the local level. The National Association shares our vision and has taken steps to make advocacy a bigger part of their focus and we are aiming to be the local voice that REALTORS® and their clients can count on to protect their interests! But as you can tell by our 4 “I’s” approach, Advocacy is more than just lobbying, it is a complete commitment to impactful community-based efforts.
Key committees and task forces of this department include Community Outreach, CARHOF, Linda Norton Good Neighbor Scholarship Fund, Government Affairs, Elections, REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC), Public Relations and Monthly Market Information.
To learn more about this department and its related activities please contact Department Director Clint Skutchan at 970-402-0852 or clint@fcbr.org.
