REALTOR & Consumer Advocacy Department Value Put in Print
FCBR’s new look REALTOR® & Consumer Advocacy Department was on full public display this past weekend via coverage in the Coloradoan. Our Advocacy efforts accounted for 3 separate articles, including the Sunday’s Business feature story on an improved market and Business column on an important community issue. In case you missed them here they are in a format that is FREE for all to read and share with or without a subscription.
- Poll Finds Support for Keeping Council Term Limits
- Is it a Seller’s Market?
- Informed Discussion of Council Term Limits Needed
We are extremely proud of this past weekend’s efforts in large part because these efforts begin to give our members, and the Fort Collins community, an understanding of the breadth of services contained within FCBR’s REALTOR® & Consumer Advocacy Department.
Saturday’s story Poll Finds Support for Keeping Council Term Limits was based on a scientifically valid poll of Fort Collins voters completed by FCBR in conjunction with NAR’s Advocacy services. This effort was made possible by our member’s investments in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) & REALTOR® Party efforts. We made a promise to you our members when dues went up at the State & National levels (Increases that we offset with our 1st ever local dues decrease of $55) that we would make sure that those dollars were brought back to the local level and used in an impactful way. Something we were able to do simply by providing needed information for an important upcoming community discussion rather than by taking a hard line political stance.
Sunday’s feature business story Is it a Seller’s Market? was a very positive look at our local market and helped to explain to potential buyers the realities of our market. For obvious reasons this is a great story for our industry, but what you need to know is that FCBR’s established relationship with the paper helped to make this happen. We were originally contacted for another story on foreclosure, but upon our request to look into the competitive bid market place as a more topical story. A story topic that our contacts at the Coloradoan knew to be true because of our ongoing monthly market reports sent to them with stats, graphs, & commentary which has provided a broader understanding of the market. Please join us in sending thanks to Patferrier@thecoloradoan.com for a realistic & positive real estate news story.
Finally, with our CEO’s monthly Business column Informed Discussion of Council Term Limits Needed we were able to back up the previous day’s news coverage with editorial commentary that reinforced our intended message. While this column featured a political theme many of our past columns have focused more on reshaping the community’s view of REALTORS®, and our industry on whole, so that when we do offer a political voice it has better standing in the community.
The future effectiveness of FCBR’s REALTOR® & Consumer Advocacy efforts will be dependent on our ability to be diversified in our approach which is why our Advocacy efforts are predicated on the “4 I’s”- meaningful community Involvement, Investment in key organizations, trustworthy local real estate Information, and effective Influence on local public policy. This past weekend has hopefully given you a glimpse of efforts to come.
