Council Rebuffs Multi-Family Moratorium & Ok's East/Westside 2.0

The City Council prompted by a citizens group discussed a potential multi-family housing moratorium for Fort Collins at their July 24th meeting.  The discussion focused on a variety of concern that citizens of the West Central neighborhoods call a concern over “intensity of density” in approximation to the CSU campus and the number of proposed “Student Projects".

After a protracted discussion the Council decided not to pursue a moritorium but rather to ask city staff to look a potential solutions to be brought forward as quickly as possible.

The direction was to address specific issues of buffering and "intensity measures" outside of the Student Housing Strategic Plan project that has been ongoing for more than a year and that will have an open house later in August and go before Council for consideration in October.

Its Baaaack…….. After some time under the hood over the past year City Staff has recently unveiled the 2012 East/West side Study. An outside consultant has been hired to conduct the study that is said to be a complement to the 2010 Study done in this same area and Council supported the continuance of this process at the same July 24th meeting. There will be a number of upcoming outreach meetings planned. Stay tuned as FCBR will update you at that info comes available. You can also learn more about these efforts at http://www.fcgov.com/advanceplanning/eastwestneighborhoods.php

FCBR’s REALTOR® & Consumer Advocacy Department will be keeping close tabs on both of these issues. If you would like to contact the City Council to share your thought we have included their contact information below.
