Colorado Congressman on Real Estate Issues: By Barbara Koelzer

MID: Jared Polis, who represents the 2nd Congressional District, told a group of Fort Collins Realtors® that he intends to protect the mortgage interest deduction (MID) but said balancing the federal budget should be the number one priority for everyone. At the same time, he said he supports the Simpson-Bowles deficit plan which would eliminate the MID.  When questioned, Polis said that he would not support any budget plan that targeted the MID or homeowners.

CAR Releases Economic Impact of Real Estate 2011

CAR’s Issues Mobilization Committee commissioned an update to a report titled, The Economic Impact of Real Estate in Colorado, which was first published in 2005. Given the recent economic downturn, one might suppose a dramatic shift in real estate’s impact on Colorado’s economy and our region. However, the data for the Northern Front Range (Boulder, Weld and Larimer counties) has changed little since the first report six years ago.

House Passes Budget With Senior Homestead Exemption:

The House passed a state budget for FY 2012-2012 on a 64 to 1 vote. The budget features $7.5 billion in spending from the state's general fund — the largest single pot of money in the budget and the one over which lawmakers have the most discretion. General-fund spending for 2012-13would be about 6.5 percent more than what lawmakers approved for the 2011-12 fiscal year.
